About Second Grade

Welcome to 2nd grade!

We are very excited to be working with your child during this school year. As the year progresses, your children will be learning many new and exciting things. We have so many amazing and fun learning activities planned for the year. During this year we will be working on growing as readers, writers and mathematicians. We will also be going on field trips, getting messy with science experiments, creating colorful masterpieces and learning about people from long ago and comparing them to what we know and have now.

Through out each unit our students will be learning new skills, and building on the ones that they have learned in kindergarten and first grade. Everything that we do this year will be to prepare them for the third grade and beyond. This year we will solidify the fundamental skills that your child will need to be successful in the years to come. In reading and writing we will be working on building stamina, reading and writing for longer periods of time. The students will continue working on having conversations with each other and make connections to the real world as well as other books that they have read. In math, our students will continue to build their mathematical thinking skills and expand on how they are getting their answers. They will also be exploring mathematical concepts through game based learning.

We look forward to learning and growing with your children throughout this school year!
