Academic Intervention Team (RtI)

P.S. 52 has a Response to Intervention (RtI) program in place for students who are at risk of not meeting grade level standards. RtI is a research-based framework that uses data-based decision-making and three levels of instruction to address a wide range of student needs and improve student reading. We use student data to identify those students at risk, monitor student progress, provide and adjust evidence-based interventions when needed. The RtI Tier II Team consists of Ms. McCabe and Ms. Fausto.

At the Tier II level, the students’ data are monitored frequently and progress is measured to make sure the intervention is working. In most cases, after about 8–12 weeks, the students’ data are evaluated and the Team, along with the classroom teacher, decides whether to continue the intervention, change it completely, or simply adapt it to better meet the needs of the student. The goal is to propel them toward grade-level expectations.
