Technology - Mrs. Ostrow
I started working for the New York City Department of Education in 1999, as a one to one Paraprofessional. For the past several years, I have been the technology teacher here at PS 52. When I first started working as a teacher I began working as a teacher for students with disabilities in grades K-5. I worked in a variety of setting from the Integrated Team Teaching setting to a 12:1:1 setting.
Several years ago I was offered the opportunity to become the technology teacher. As the technology teacher, I not only work with the students in the building, I also support the staff. I troubleshoot for them when when they have problems, and help them when they want to learn about new technologies. In addition to working with the teachers in my own school I facilitate a monthly meeting with the other technology teachers in District 22.
As the technology teacher, I try to offer the students new experiences each year even though we are working in the same programs. In the technology class we are learning how to use Microsoft Office and Google Drive. In these unit the students are learning how to transfer the skills and knowledge learned in their classrooms to the computer. The students also participate in the World Wide Hour of Code as a launch into my Computer Science and STEAM Curriculum and they learn the basics of graphic design.
In this classroom we ask for help, we help each other, we are persistent not perfect, we do our best work, we learn from our mistakes, and are not afraid to try something new.
